Patron of beer and brewers
Arnold of Metz was a Frankish bishop who lived in the days when water born illnesses were common. He extolled the health bene ts of drinking beer, knowing that beer’s preparation killed bacteria, and made it safe to drink. He is reported to have said, “From man’s sweat and God’s love, beer came into the world.” Through his preaching and miracles, St. Arnold refreshed the mugs and souls of many.
